Very deceptive when most of the furniture you are using comes unassembled or folds. Most people aren't moving futons! Not to mention, you U-box are the highest quote I've received. I'll be taking my business to other companies who aren't going to treat me like I'm a fool!

Use a scale. Assuming that "at least 1 inch drop is good" is dangerous. That might be the right weight, or it could be too little or it could be too much. Attach a trailer jack (better than a fixed stand since the jack is adjustable). Put a bathroom scale with a light board on it (to reduce chance of damaging it) under it when jack is retracted and trailer is mounted on vehicle. Measure height of tongue off the ground. Disconnect the ball, chains and wiring, then jack till the jack is supporting trailer. Remove vehicle and lower jack till tongue is at same height off the ground as before*. The scale will read the tongue weight and you can see it change as you adjust the load. (This does include the weight of the board and jack, but you can just subtract those. Also an old analog scale might be better since it will continually show weight and sometimes digital displays turn off) *You might not necessarily need to lower the jack as it only makes a little difference, but that's an easy step. If the tongue weight will be more than the scale can handle you can have it off to the side under a long board and based on it's distance it will take a known fraction of the weight which can then be adjusted to know the true weight. Lots of videos show how to do that.

I have the same car, a 2016 Ford escape, my mechanic told me that it has all wheel drive so I have to disengage the all wheel drive but I think I'm safe to tow it a mile. What do you think?
